Haunted Helmet: Not Looking Good

December 27th, 2010

More info on the Haunted Helmet.  After unlocking the Security helmet and the UA/HUL add-on for it, a new add-on opened.  The CBRN/CNM is available for 200,000 cR but requires a rank of Mythic to purchase.  There's also another helmet add-on for GUNGNIR that requires the rank of Legend.

Haunted Helmet takes forever

Thus, the previous article about helmet add-on costs will need to be revised.  It seems when you purchase one add-on, another may become available.

So now it's at least going to take the rank of Mythic to get every helmet and add-on.  As with the CBRN/CNM, that's an additional 200K cR.  Buying just the base helmets doesn't work.  Chances are that before everything is finished, it will take the rank of Inheritor to get the Haunted Helmet.  It was worth a try and fun to chase, but 20mil cR is a long ways away.  Bungie needs to step up and have some double or triple cR weekends.

Haunted Helmet: Update

December 22nd, 2010

In follow up to the chase for the Haunted Helmet, I've purchased all base helmets and most of the add-ons.  There's one add-on for the CQB helmat that hasn't unlocked yet.  It requires you to finish Halo 3 on Legendary, so that's the next task to tackle.

Haunted Helmet

The remaining add-ons needed are going to cost 515,000 cR and I have about 325,000 cR now, so it's time to drop back and clean up Halo 3 on Legendary.

If getting all of the helmets and all of the add-ons doesn't work, it could be a case of needing to be an Inheritor to achieve the Hanuted Helmet.  Yuck.

October 20th, 2010

If you've noticed, the Halo: Reach credits (cR) required for the Inheritor rank is 20,000,000.  It takes over a million cR just to reach Colonel Grade 2.  So where do all these credits come from?  Once commendations are maxed out, should you just run campaign or matchmaking until the end of time?  Let's take a look at the numbers...

Halo: Reach - Rank Freeze / Cap

October 20th, 2010

UPDATE: According to Bungie, the freeze / cap will lift sometime in mid-November, or at the same time that collective Halo: Reach online players complete a total of 117 million Daily and Weekly challenges. Get it?  John 117 and 117 million.

Lt. Colonel Grade 3 - MAX!

For now, your maximum Halo: Reach rank is Lt. Colonel Grade 3. Bungie has stated they will keep the freeze in place for a bit longer. Chances are the rank freeze/cap will be lifted about the time Call of Duty: Black Ops comes out (Nov. 9) to try to pull away some of their online players. Once the freeze/cap is lifted, we'll let you know.

Halo: Reach - Ranks and Credits (cR)

October 20th, 2010

Halo: Reach now uses a credit (cR) system that allows players to increase rank. For every cR earned, the player moves closer to a higher rank. Credits can be earned from Campain, Multiplayer and FireFight. Credits are earned through basic gameplay, medals earned, commendations and slot machine (given a the end of any matchmaking game). Credits are also used towards the purchase of armor upgrades. While you may spend cR on armor, your advancement towards your next rank does not diminish beacuse of spending cR. Once a cR is earned, it is applied towards rank and does not reduce (unless you get the ban hammer for cR boosting). Below is the list of available ranks and the required number of cR to reach each:

Performing the Daily or Weekly Challenges on Halo: Reach are a good way to pick up some extra cR, but sometimes it doesn't pay to "chase" a challenge.  A good example is one of the Daily Challenges from October 12, 2010.
